Android is top smartphone OS in the US
According to the latest report by the analysts from Nielsen, Android enjoys the highest usage among smartphone platforms in the United States, followed by iOS and BlackBerry OS.
Some 36 percent of US smartphone users have an Android smartphone. In comparison, 26% are using the Apple iOS while 23% are using RIM's BlackBerry OS.
The remaining 15% of the smartphone pie is taken by Windows Mobile, which still has a decent 9% user base, and by WebOS, Symbian, Windows Phone 7 and PalmOS with. It's a little disappointing to see Symbian despite being the oldest platforms here and still very much alive unlike the now defunct Windows Mobile having no more than 2% market share. Same goes for HP's WebOS, which deserved a lot more success than it received.

Google announces Google Wallet....Tap, pay, and save with Google Wallet
Yesterday Google announced Google Wallet.Google Wallet is an Android app that makes your phone your wallet. It stores virtual versions of your existing plastic cards on your phone. Simply tap your phone to pay and redeem offers using near field communication, or NFC.
Google Wallet is being field tested and will be available this year.
Google Wallet will initially work with Google's Nexus S 4G smartphone from Sprint, the third-largest US wireless provider, and will eventually be expanded to other phones equipped with near field communication (NFC) technology.
An NFC chip in a phone allows a user who has entered his or her credit card details to "tap-and-pay" for purchases at a checkout register equipped with the PayPass system from CitiMasterCard.
Customers can also use Google Prepaid cards to pay for purchases and take advantage of Google Offers, the Mountain View, California-based company's online discount coupon program.
The company said Google Wallet will be accepted at more than 124,000 US merchants at launch and more than 311,000 around the world.
Stephanie Tilenius, Google's vice president for commerce and payments, described Google Wallet as the "next generation of mobile commerce."
The first merchants and stores to accept mobile payment through Google Wallet are Subway, American Eagle, Macy's and American Outfitters along many others.
Google Offers is tightly connected with the Wallet app. After you make a purchase, depending on the store you are in, you will be able to receive special coupons or loyalty points, which you can use at a later point in time.
Controversy:Google vows to fight suit over mobile 'Wallet'
Google on Friday rejected a charge that it swiped PayPal trade secrets to build its new mobile application that turns a smartphone into an electronic wallet.
Within hours of the unveiling of "Google Wallet" on Thursday, eBay and PayPal filed a lawsuit charging the Internet giant tapped into the online financial transaction service's know-how for the mobile payments project.
PayPal spent three years trying to work out a deal in which it would handle payments for Android smartphones, only to see Google scuttle the talks and hire PayPal lead negotiator Osama Bedier, according to court documents.

"Silicon Valley was built on the ability of individuals to use their knowledge and expertise to seek better employment opportunities, an idea recognized by both California law and public policy," a Google spokesman told AFP.
"We respect trade secrets, and will defend ourselves against these claims."

HTC 16 & Sony Ericsson 20 megapixel phone in the works
If this video is authentic, then HTC might be on the way to start a mobile camera revolution. We guess we’ll have to wait and see how things will turn out. We wouldn't mind seeing one of those 16MP Sony backlit sensors in action.
Samsung Galaxy S gets Gingerbread
Samsung said its Android 2.3 update for the Galaxy S would come in mid-April and, by golly, it meant it literally. Sometime during the night between the 15th and 16th days of this month, the Korean manufacturer's Kies servers started serving up a fresh portion of Gingerbread to Galaxy S owners in parts of Europe, and now reports are coming in of users successfully updating their Hummingbird-equipped handsets. It's a limited rollout, benefiting the Nordic countries, Holland and Germany first, but we doubt Samsung will hold out on the rest of Europe for much longer. If you want to try your luck, boot up your Kies updating utility and pray to your nearest tech deity.

rich rich HTC
HTC Corp.,the Taiwanese company which overtook Nokia Oyj this week as the world’s third-largest phonemaker by market value, posted record quarterly profit and sales on demand for smartphones.
Net income almost tripled to NT$14.8 billion ($513 million) in the first quarter from NT$5 billion a year earlier, the Taoyuan, Taiwan-based company said in a statement today. That was higher than the NT$12.8 billion average of 18 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
Sales more than doubled as HTC benefited from rising demand for smartphones that use Google Inc. (GOOG)’s Android system and models that offer higher connection speeds. Profit may gain further this quarter as the company begins selling new devices including its first tablet computer, according to analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg.
“We expect HTC’s new model launches in the second quarter to drive stronger shipment growth than peers in the next two quarters,” Jeff Pu, an analyst at Fubon Financial Holding Co. in Taipei who recommends investors “buy” the stock, wrote in a report yesterday.
HTC said Jan. 21 it expected to ship 8.5 million units for the quarter, more than double that of a year earlier and its second-highest following the 9.1 million sold in the fourth quarter. It didn’t provide first-quarter shipment numbers today. Net income may climb in the second quarter to NT$16.4 billion, according to the median of three analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg in the past 28 days.
ThunderBolt Vs Iphone
Revenue rose to NT$104.2 billion, beating HTC’s own forecast for NT$94 billion, and surpassing the NT$95 billion average of 20 analyst estimates compiled by Bloomberg. That figure may climb to NT$112 billion this quarter, according to analyst estimates from the past 28 days.
The company’s ThunderBolt handset, using fourth-generation high speed networks, equaled sales of Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s iPhone in 61 percent of the 150 Verizon Wireless stores surveyed by New York- based BTIG LLC, analyst Walter Piecyk wrote in a March 31 report. ThunderBolt outsold iPhone in 28 percent of stores, according to the survey.
“Several respondents indicated that the store lines were longer for the first day of the ThunderBolt launch than they were for the iPhone,” Piecyk wrote. “Verizon sales people indicated that sales of the iPhone were still strong but they simply noted that the ThunderBolt was as strong if not stronger.”
The Taiwanese company’s first tablet, HTC Flyer, was unveiled on Feb. 15. Sales will begin in the second quarter, rivaling Apple’s iPad and Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy. Flyer has a smaller screen and higher-resolution camera than Apple’s iPad2.
Overtaking Nokia
HTC’s stock, which has tripled in the past year, fell 3.3 percent to NT$1,160 at the 1:30 p.m. close of Taipei trading before the earnings were announced. Its market value surpassed that of Nokia on April 6, putting it behind only Apple and Samsung, before dropping back below the Finnish rival in trading today.
Global shipments of smartphones climbed 72 percent last year, more than double the 32 percent growth in the wider mobile devices market, researcher Gartner Inc. said in a Feb. 9 statement. Smartphones, the only type of phone HTC makes, accounted for 19 percent of market shipments last year, it said.
Google’s Android operating system, which HTC uses for its handsets and tablets, will run on 49 percent of smartphones sold globally next year, from 39 percent this year and 23 percent last year, Stamford, Connecticut-based Gartner said in a statement yesterday. The software platform will stay ahead of Research in Motion Inc.’s BlackBerry, and Apple’s iOS, it said.
hope HTC do more better in future..............

GSM EVO 3D coming?HTC event scheduled for 12 April
HTC has just started sending out invitations for an event it is holding on 12th April. Inviting press to "see what's next" the company is most probably going to announce a new high-end smartphone.
Good old HTC is cooking up a little somethin' somethin' for an April 12th launch in London town, for an event kicking off at 1.30PM BST or 8.30AM EST. While consulting our solar calendars, we noticed that's when Microsoft's MIX 2011 developer gathering is also getting started, but we're sure it's just a coincidence and HTC isn't about to spring a battery of new Windows Phone 7 devices on us. In fact, if you stare at the invite's image long enough, you might just convince yourself you're looking at a bulging smartphone screen, which could indicate we're talking about the EVO 3D's European launch. You never know with these things. Whatever happens, we'd advise circling the date and making sure your popcorn supplies aren't running low.

Samsung I9001 Galaxy S Plus got 1.4 GHz Gingerbread
Samsung are working on a new hot Android smartphone called Samsung I9001 Galaxy S Plus. Packing a 1.4 GHz single-core processor and running on the latest phone-friendly 2.3 Gingerbread version of the Google OS, this Galaxy S smartphone should fill the gap between the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Ace in the company's 2011 portfolio.
Samsung is just about to release arguably the hottest Android smartphone of all times, but that's not enough for a company that aims to become the world's top cell phone manufacturer. To achieve that they should be have a device for everyone on offer and that's why the Samsung I9001 Galaxy S Plus comes into play.
Just like the S II Mini, which leaked through the O2 roadmap, the Samsung I9001 Galaxy S Plus packs a SuperAMOLED screen, a 5 megapixel camera capable of recording HD video and a 1650 mAh battery. Best of all, it comes with an all-metal back.
On the other hand the Galaxy S Plus screen is said to measure 4", while the Galaxy S II Mini was supposed to pack a 3.7" unit. Anyway both rumors point at a launch in April so we should find out pretty soon if Samsung has one or two new smartphones in store for us.
The estimated retail price of the Samsung Galaxy S Plus (which will be called Samsung Galaxy S 2011 Edition in Russia) is said to be 24 000 RUB, which converts to $840. This seems pretty unlikely though, considering that the pre-orders for the Galaxy S II start at $700.

Xperia PLAY - Exclusive look on Gameloft's 10 games!
If you're into watching little chubby fingers play mobile video games, this video is for you, folks. Mobile games publisher, Gameloft, has posted a new compilation trailer on their YouTube account. The montage includes ten HD games for the Xperia Play. Now, we're not quite sure if these titles we'll be the more "complex games" the Sony Ericsson exec was talking about, but all we know is that they will be availabe at launch. Not a bad line-up. Chubby fingers aside, it's still pretty cool to see shooters being played with the dual touch pads -- making shooters on the go that much better. [YouTube via Twitter]
Here is a list of titles in the montage:
- Spider-Man: Total Mayhem
- Uno HD
- Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles
- Real Football 2011
- Star Battalion
- Splinter Cell: Conviction
- Modern Combat 2: Black Pegasus
- Let's Golf! 2
- Brother's In Arms 2: Global Front
- Asphalt 6: Adrenaline

Android on top,WP7 will go second by 2015, iOS and BlackBerry will lose ground
According to IDC Windows Phone 7 reached a market share of 5.5% in 2011, but it will achieve an average growth of 67% per year until 2015, which will help it overtake Symbian, BlackBerry and iOS in the smartphone ranking. The analysts see the partnership with Nokia as key to securing this impressive growth rate.
In the lead Android has little to worry about as it will be nearing a 40% market share over the course of this year. An increase in sales by 23.8% over each of the following four years will let it increase that even further to an estimated 45.4% in 2012 when Nokia is supposed to make its first large-scale move with WP7 devices.
Naturally a large part of those increases will come at the expense of Symbian, which will be rapidly losing ground in the years to come. The Nokia platform will be down to 20.9% before 2011 has ended and with a 0.2% market share, Symbian will be virtually non-existent in 2015.
The sales of iOS and BlackBerry devices will be growing by 17.1% a year and 18.8% a year respectively until 2015, but that would actually mean they are underperforming the market. That will lead to a slight slip in their market shares - iOS will be running on 15.3% of all smartphones in 2015, while BlackBerry OS will only be powering 13.7%.

U can unlock the Sony Ericsson XPERIA's bootloader thiz spring
Sony Ericsson has listened into the developers' requests and will allow them to unlock the bootloader on the latest XPERIA smartphones - Arc, Neo, Pro and Play. The process will be a secure and legal and will become possible this spring.
This is surely a good news for all the Android developers. According to Sony Ericsson, it has found a way to allow the devs unlock the boot loader in a secure way and without sharing it.
The compatible XPERIA phones will be Arc, Neo, Pro and Play. The XPERIA X10 family won't be considered "due to technical and legal reasons."
Not all the available model variants will be able to take advantage of the unlocking though. The carrier-locked devices and some region-specific ones won't be able to get their bootloaders unlocked. If your XPERIA phone is able to connect to the Fastboot tool in the Android SDK, then your phone meets the requirements and you will be OK.
Sony Ericsson also warns that you may void your warranty if you use unsigned ROMs and in case of damage you might need to pay a handling fee at the service center. They recommend that only advance developers do bootloader unlock.
Anyway, it's a bold move. This, with the recently announced Gingerbread update and the unique XPERIA Play launching any moment surely speaks that the Sony Ericsson's corporate policy has changed. Did we miss something important along the way?
HTC Desire HD to get Gingerbread Motorola DEFY will enjoy Froyo
The French carrier SFR announced a schedule for the Android updates for HTC Desire HD and Motorola DEFY. The Desire HD will get a Gingerbread update in the first half of April, while the Motorola DEFY will taste Froyo by the end of April. Both updates are right on schedule. If the SFR info is right we guess the rest of the world will get them about the same time.
